Founded in 1987, Mobile Ballet’s mission is to provide superior dance education, present quality performances, and to promote the ballet to the community as an expression of the human spirit. As a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization seeking to serve the community, Mobile Ballet has made a tremendous impact in the cultural, artistic, and economic landscape of the greater Mobile area.
The Mobile Ballet School, with two studios located in Mobile and Daphne, offers classical ballet and Broadway-style jazz instruction to more than 300 students annually, ranging in age from 3 to adult. We also host a variety of master classes and intensives, featuring guest teachers from throughout the county, as well as our own outstanding faculty. Donor-funded tuition scholarships are available for students in our schools, as well as for summer study in an array of nationally prominent classical ballet programs. Many of our school alumnae dance professionally, as well as enjoy the lifelong benefits of fitness, poise, discipline and grace from classical ballet study.
With the auditioned Mobile Ballet Company of 30 dancers, as well as exceptional guest artists, Mobile Ballet also stages at least three major productions annually, including the traditional holiday favorite The Nutcracker. The Mobile Ballet Company has a full repertoire of classical ballets including The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Coppelia, Giselle and Swan Lake. Original works include Winthrop Corey’s Dracula, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Snow White. Mobile Ballet also presents outstanding ballet productions, such as Stars of American Ballet, featuring Daniel Ulbricht and principals from New York City Ballet, and Bad Boys of Dance featuring Rasta Thomas.
We celebrate the tremendous community support that has helped us enrich the lives of literally tens of thousands of children through the years. Thanks to the generous support of our local community, our Discover Dance program brings the magic of live, full-length classical ballet performances to more than 5,000 students in a five-county area of southwest Alabama each year. We believe that exposure to the arts is a vital part of every child’s education.
Through our Share the Dance program, which provides complimentary performance tickets distributed in collaboration with more than 40 area charities, hundreds of children and adults who would otherwise be unable to attend performances are able to enjoy dance at its finest.
Our signature event the Nutcracker Charity Ball, held annually each December and featuring invited Debutantes, has raised more than $1 million since 2002 to fund the outreach and education programs of Mobile Ballet, as well as make significant contributions to local children’s charities, which are selected annually by our Board of Directors through a formal grant application process.
Your support of Mobile Ballet helps ensure the on-going programs that touch the lives of so many in our community.
